Upgrading of control kits.

My client asked me to visit the property as past engineers had said that the system was not working and in need of replacing.

The system hadn't worked well for nearly 5 years and the client was getting a bit bemused by the inability of others in getting to the source of the problem.

We stepped in.......

After a simple removal of the fan cover, we unearthed the reason...

There was a big build up of lint/dust and skin on the fan impeller blades which reduced the unit's capacity of circulating the air.

We cleaned each of the impellers and refitted the fan cover.

The end result ? It worked perfectly and did not need replacing.

Did you know that it can spell disaster by allowing the build up of lint and dust on your fan blades ? 

Absolutely it can.........

Whenever the unit is serviced it should be automatic that the blades are cleaned on the fan, yet I find many that simply aren't.

The result can be twofold:

1 - The fan ceases to operate efficiently, and as seen above it can actually prevent the system from operating.

2 - The build up of contaminant can actually damage the motor's bearings to such an extent that a new fan motor is required - how do you know ? Listen.....the system should be fairly silent but of you are hearing an abnormally loud sound - bet you it's your bearings gone.

Many of the heat recovery systems have a 'Filter Replacement' indicator that appears on the control panel when the filters have passed the set period - this could be 6 - 12 months (Depending on location).

A unit with filters that are in this condition (above), will have an impact not only on the unit's operation but, and more importantly, have an impact on the quality of the air that you are breathing.

It is very simple, and cost effective, to replace the filters. The cost ranges from €120 - 180 + VAT.

However, it really is a great investment for you and your property. As like every appliance in use in Ireland, it is only as good as the service.
